Jenny is available for lectures and workshops – she loves to share her knowledge with as many people as possible! Frequent topics include the following but can be grouped and customized for your audience and event.
Introduction to Collecting Photography
Fine art photography can be a bewildering industry for those who are new to it or for those whose collecting experience focuses on art in other mediums. We discuss industry standards and the knowledge needed to become an empowered photography buyer. We review common terms and topics including the various photography mediums, the concept of limited editions, price structures, purchase discounts, and the expectations and benefits of buying from artists, galleries, and auctions. We also discuss establishing goals as a collector and developing a personal collecting philosophy, which can be an essential tool in a buyer’s decision-making process.
Editions, Price Structures & Defining Your Product
We discuss these frequent questions: How should I edition my work? How should I price my work? What if I print in many different sizes? What if I have sold the same image printed using different mediums like silver gelatin and a pigment print? What does it mean to define my product?
There is no one right way of doing things. The best solutions are reached through a comprehensive knowledge of the industry coupled with a thorough understanding of goals, values, and a photographer’s unique ideas about how they want to share their art with the world. We discuss what galleries and collectors expect and what systems other artists have successfully put into practice. With this understanding in place, we can help our audience define what they sell and develop an appropriate edition and price structure.
Working with Galleries: Sales, Consignments, & Best Practices
We discuss paperwork, discounts, contracts, and gallery expectations during the exhibition, consignment and sales process.
